Soft-wash roof cleaning that removes black algae streaks without damaging your shingles, plus HydraSoy rejuvenation for aging roofs. Daytona Beach Roof Savers serves homeowners in Pierson and across Volusia County.
Pierson is the rural town in northwest Volusia known as the Fern Capital of the World. Homes here sit among farms and woods, and roofs pick up moss and algae in the shade. We soft-wash roofs in Pierson as part of our West Volusia service area.
Inland roofs see less salt but a lot more shade. Oaks and pines drop leaves and needles that hold moisture on the shingles, so along with the familiar black streaks we often find green moss and lichen on north-facing slopes and under overhanging limbs. A soft wash kills all three at the root instead of just rinsing the stain off the surface, which is why the roof stays clean longer afterward.
Tell us what your roof looks like and we will tell you whether it needs a cleaning, a rejuvenation, or something more. No pressure and no cost for the estimate.
(386) 564-6700 Request an Estimate OnlineThose black streaks are almost never dirt. They are Gloeocapsa magma, a type of blue-green algae that feeds on the limestone filler inside modern asphalt shingles. Florida never gets cold enough to kill it off, so it grows all year, spreading down from the ridge on the shadier sides of the roof. Left alone it holds moisture against the shingles and makes a roof look older than it is, which is how a lot of homeowners end up pricing a replacement they do not need yet.
Pressure washing a shingle roof blasts off the protective granules that shield the asphalt from the sun, which shortens the life of the roof. A soft wash does the work with chemistry instead of force: we apply a roof-safe cleaning solution at low pressure, let it kill the algae, moss, and lichen at the root, and rinse gently. Plants are protected before and after, and remaining stains keep fading with the next few rains.
We handle shingle, tile, and metal roofs. Cleaning is where most homeowners start; rejuvenation and repairs are there when the roof needs more.

They are Gloeocapsa magma, a blue-green algae that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles. Florida humidity lets it grow year-round. It is not dirt, and a low-pressure soft wash kills it at the root.
No. High pressure strips the granules that protect shingles from the sun and can shorten the life of the roof. We use a low-pressure soft wash on roofs and save pressure for concrete and other hard surfaces.
It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, the roof material, and how heavy the algae growth is. We give free estimates, and you will know the price before any work starts.
If the shingles are stained but still flat, flexible, and holding granules, cleaning is usually all you need, and HydraSoy can add 5 to 10 years to shingles that are drying out. If there are leaks, soft spots, or missing shingles, we will tell you, and our sister company Daytona Beach Roofing can handle a replacement.
